Oscuro " The Darker Leaf" Exhibition
Oscuro the Darker Leaf is an introduction of photographs from my upcoming book "The Social Light " This book is my love letter to the art and culture of cigars . A collection of moments that took place across thousands of miles and hundreds of months.
The moments captured in this book are what our ancestors fought so hard for us to have. These images are the embodiment of life being lived outside of struggle.
Black and Brown people have been excluded from spaces of leisure in American life. While cigars themselves don’t discriminate, we’ve been actively underrepresented in a world that we’re at the center of. These photographs are an ode to the living history and community that we create around a passion for smoking and a desire for connection.
This exhibition is a prelude to the The Social Light book project. We invite you to intimately connect with images, subjects and the artist outside of the books context.

In addition to the main exhibition 183 Shipley will be collaborating with Walder to create a small group of artist inspired collages sourced from his book “The Social Light.”
